Headlight Restoration

Headlight Restoration?

If your headlights look hazy or cloudy you may need to restore them or have them restored.  Cloudy headlights will decrease the amount of light passing the plastic cover and therefore decrease your ability to see the incoming traffic.  Also, your vehicle is less visible to others. This is a safety issue first and cosmetic issue second.

Over the counter restoration systems are available at local retailers. This can be a do it yourself project or it can be done by your local detailer.  Most of this systems are easy to follow and very affordable.  The other option is to have a professional do it for you. Regardless of the restoration method this may have to be repeated every year or every few years, depending on the protection type selected.

What we know is that the elements are responsible for the damage found on most headlights.  Ultraviolet rays are specially damaging.  In Florida “the sunshine state” we have plenty of sun and uv rays, so is common to see vehicle with damage headlights.

At Next Generation Detailing we restore headlights by removing the defect and applying a seal or coating to protect the finish.  For those looking to extend the life of the repair we offer a headlight coating that forms a covalent bond with the headlight and cross-links to blanket the lens with a durable, protective film. This coating should keep your headlights in good shape for years to come.  Here is a list of the steps we follow to achieve the results we strive for:

1.  We prepare the area by taping around the headlight.

2.  We wet-sand the defective area (removing the defect).

3.  We compound and polish the headlights restoring the shine and clarity to the plastic.

4.  Lastly – We seal the headlights (or you could upgrade to a coating).  We recommend to apply a wax or sealant every few months to keep those headlights shining.
